Hey folks!

We’ve got some interesting changes coming down the pipe here on Flipswitch.

From here on out, we’ll rarely be doing 30 minute shows anymore.  Instead, we’ll be doing something a bit more concentrated.  We’ll be rolling out a new issue here on the blog each week.  That’s one new issue each week.  And we’ll be publishing both blogposts as well as segments in support of that issue over the course of the week.

Think of it like this:  on Monday, we post a blog at 10 am about our issue of the week, let’s say for “catastrophic thinking” for instance.  The blog post would roll out some thoughts on that issue that we’ll be looking at over the course of the week.  At around 2pm or so that day, we might publish our learning the terms segment where we’ll define exactly what catastrophic thinking actually is.  On Tuesday, one of the co-hosts would do another blog about the topic of the week, while on Wednesday, we’d publish a segment giving practical examples of catastrophic thinking.  Thursday, yet even another blog post or segment.  And on and on until the end of the week.  Then, on Monday, we’d start with an all new issue, doing the whole thing all over again.

So, our new method of doing the show will have much shorter segments published more often and we’ll be making more use of our blog as well.  Stay tuned. It’s going to be quite interesting!

In other news (literally!), we’ll be making Mood Disorders In the News its own recurring weekly segment, typically posted on Wednesdays or Thursdays.   Things happen every day in the world of mood disorders.  It only makes sense that as part of our podcast we consistently bring you the current happenings in the world of mood disorders.

To sum up, more blog centric podcast spaced out in shorter segments over the week with a stand alone Mood Disorders In the News every week!  It’s going to be something.

The Flipswitch Music Contest

Flipswitch is in need of a serious music upgrade! If you’re in a band or you’ve got some musical talent all on your own, submit your tracks to the Flipswitch podcast. All music must be original and cannot simply be recorded works of other artists. As we receive tracks from listeners, we’ll preview some of them on the show. Once we find one that tickles our fancy, it’ll become the opening track for the Flipswitch podcast. We’ll be accepting submissions through March 2008. So….on your mark….get set…ROCK!!!

Flipswitch Voicemail!

Now YOU can leave us a message on our brand new Flipswitch voicemail! If you think email is for posers and blogging is for chumps, you can let your voice be heard now just by dialing (847) 380-2378. You’ll hear a message from the Flipswitch voicemail and prompt to leave a message. We’ll check them and collect them and analyze them and do some CSI stuff to them. We’ll answer any questions we can and all comments are, of course, appreciated. We might even play it on the show if it angles into our plans. Think of it as the Bat-phone, only about a mental health issue…and not a direct line to a superhero….and we don’t have an awesome car (though the new Batman movie is being filmed here). So get to dialing already.

The first show will be ready for posting tomorrow and will cover the major medications in three areas: antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and antidepressants. And, just as a little teaser….we’re playing Quizzo again!!

Some of the Music

One of the interesting questions we’ve had about our most recent show was totally unrelated to the topic: denial. Instead, people wondered who that was playing the country music near the end of the episode. It was the Lawerence Peters Outfit, a Chicago-based country band. You can check them out on myspace here.

This week Tech Corner mentioned the The National Sleep Foundation. You can find them online and http://www.sleepfoundation.com/teens with tons of information on how sleep can affect you. As well, there’s a nifty little 3D animation which walks you through the ins and outs of the process of sleep and why it’s so important. It’s a ball of fun to watch. Catch it at this link:
